Sciatica
This pain runs through
the buttocks and down the back of the leg, dividing at the knee
to either the outside of the calf or back of calf. Sometimes this
extends even into the foot. The cause is generally from one of
two causes; either tightening of the gluteal and hip muscles or
from narrowing of the joint space in the low back where the nerves
exit the spine. There are other causes, but these are the two
most common. Treatment consists of:
- Have Structural
Fingerprint Exam to determine cause.
- Reduce activity
during acute stages.
- Apply ice over low
back, 15-20 minutes at a time, multiple times per day.
- Use tennis ball
treatment; while sitting on floor, lean back onto elbows and
place tennis ball under involved hip. Roll onto ball placing
it under sites of increased pain and discomfort, agitate for
10-15 seconds, and move to another point in the muscle, multiple
times per day.
- Rehab
Plus will help to reduce inflammation naturally, while
also encouraging an accelerated recovery. Calcium/Magnesium
will provide much needed minerals for improved contraction and
relaxation of the muscle.
- Evaluate foot-type,
and make sure proper shoes are being worn. Consider custom orthotics
if necessary.
